Well Christmas is over and the tedious task of coiling up lights has begun. I spent the week after Christmas comatose, some days never leaving my bathrobe, eating sweets and watching “That’s Entertainment” reruns on TMC. I was spent. My friend Melissa compares Christmas prep to The Amazing Race, and Miss Thing is right. I feel like I’ve raced through 20 countries in 8 days.
Vacation time! Hubby and I are headed out for a week to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Expect LOTS of “escape cville” blogs upon our return. Also working on restaurant reviews: BBQ Exchange, Korea House, The Clifton Inn. Another foodie giveaway when the Facebook “likes” reach 250! Whenever I think eggnog, I think of Grandpa John and * that * Christmas. It was Christmas Eve, and I’d driven from Richmond to spend the holidays with Nana and Grandpa John. Except that year Nana was spending Christmas in the hospital. So where in previous years I arrived to a slew of hugs and arms and twinkly lights and music and people and food, that year I arrived to an empty house. Everyone was waiting for Christmas Day to meet up at the hospital, but I couldn’t bear the thought of NOT spending Christmas Eve at Nana’s, so I drove up anyway. And let myself in with the key hidden in the mailbox.

Much to my dismay, I could find no New Year’s Eve-themed foods scary enough for a mention. Fear not, I’m nothing if not resourceful.
